Never Again in My Generation Campaign on FGM/C and Child Marriage

NYC in collaboration with UNICEF The Gambia initiated a project called: NEVER AGAIN IN MY GENERATION CAMPAIGN ON FGM/C AND CHILD MARRIAGE The objective of this project is to:

  • Raise public awareness and understanding on the dangers and complications associated with FGM/C and Child Marriage through youth led demand for political and commitments.

  • Build community consensus on the negative effects of religion and traditional values that cause, promote and perpetuate the practice of child marriage and FGM/C.

Main activities The activities are expected to not only raise public awareness on the danger of FGM/C but also show young people’s commitment to End FGM in a generation.

  • Day of action to End FGM and Child marriage in my Generation – This activity will entail a nationwide march pass by young people in each of the seven regions. The caravan will present a demand letter to the Governors to call for an End to FGM/C. The activities will be covered by GRTS, print media and youth will also share it on social media to attract public attention. This action will raised awareness and reconfirm young people’s commitment to Ending FGM in the Gambia.

  • Inter-Generational – Dialogue on Ending FGM in a Generation – FGM/C continues to be a generational dilemma with cultural and religious myths used to justify the act. Inter – generational dialogue with community, women, youth leaders, experts and religious leaders is necessary for building consensus on Ending FGM in a generation.
